Well day three is over. Today we made it to Bacharach and St. Goar along the Rhine river. It's a beautiful area filled with wineries, vineyards, and guest houses. Most of the towns in this area have many of the walls and other fortifications still. They've built them in to their cities. It's awesome to think of the terrors these people went through back in medieval times. So many warriors/army generals, so little time.
The ruins in the area are also amazing. Some were bombed, some were burned, and some were conquered and forgotten. Bombs did a lot of damage and while rebuilding restores some of the beauty, it doesn't restore the original structure.
Tomorrow we travel to another bomb-damaged town, probably Wuerzburg.
